2013 Capital Cup Another Success!

Blue skies, perfect weather and 16 teams from all over Europe graced this year's Capital Cup as defending champions The Inglorious Basterds won the 2013 Grand Final with a 5-1 victory over Courant d'R from Paris.

With the TiB fields booked on May 4, The Capital Cup was switched from Kreuzberg to Weissensee's Stadion Buschallee, home of Rugby Klub 03 Berlin, and more than 200 players, referees and supporters enjoyed a great day of sun-drenched touch.

Amsterdam's Den Dam produced a strong showing on the day in the mixed tournament, bouncing back from a heavy defeat to the Basterds in the semi-final to finish third with a 5-3 win over a lively Italian side from Verona.

In the end, TiB Red finished as the highest ranking German team as they beat Touch Munchen 6-1 in the 5th/6th-placed play-off, while Touch Frankfurt saw off TR Colognia 6-3 to finish ninth.

For the first time, the capital city supplied four teams as TiB fielded a Red and Black team, as well as a Barbarians team, while the newly-formed Berlin BRC also entered a side, which showed plenty of potential. TiB Black finished 14th, losing 7-2 to London's Vorsprung durch Touch in their play-off, while Berlin BRC finished right behind in 15th, with Barbarians 16th and last as they fielded an all-male team.

In the long list of people to thank, TiB Berlin president Rob MacGregor, and his long-suffering wife Claudia, again pulled off a superb tournament having organised the venue, set-up, catering and draw, pretty much everything and did a heck of a lot of work behind the scenes.

Special mention to all the referees who made the trip to Berlin, under the tutorage of European Director of Referees Derek Fisher, and without the guys and girls in the middle, there would have been no tournament.
