International Touch returns to the University of Stirling

The Federation of International Touch (FIT) and Scottish Touch Association (STA) can confirm the return of international Touch to the University of Stirling with the European Seniors Cup taking place from Friday, August 15 to Sunday 17 August 2025.

This new event in the international calendar, will feature senior and master grade representative teams in men’s, women’s and mixed categories from National Touch Organisations (NTOs) across Europe and further afield. Expressions of Interest are now being taken, and NTO’s will receive notification of how to progress this directly.

Commenting on the new event, FIT Director, Mike Abromowitz said:

“We are delighted to be able to bring the first European Seniors Cup to the University of Stirling next August. I would like to thank Clare (Hill) and the rest of the team at the STA for the work they have done to make this possible."

“Having previously hosted a junior European Championships at the venue in 2018, I know how good The University of Stirling will be as hosts and we are delighted that the Scottish Touch Association have been able to secure the venue. I am looking forward to getting back to Scotland and enjoying the fantastic and very warm welcome that I know everyone participating will receive."

“Alongside the European Opens Cup, this new event forms a key part of FIT’s international calendar in Europe as we build towards the European Touch Championships in France in 2026.”

The STA has been steadily rebuilding following a tough period brought on by the pandemic. With a new leadership team in place, the organisation is seeking to put on a great show and ensure good representation from Scottish teams.

Commenting on the news, Clare Hill from the STA said:

“Following the success of the Senior Touch Champs in Portugal in 2019, and Scotland’s strong participation in senior and masters touch, we are delighted to host this event. The University of Stirling is a high-quality venue with fantastic facilities that will be a great base for this tournament and for those who might want to travel in Scotland before or after the event. "

“We would like to thank everyone at the university, who has helped make this possible, but especially Kaitlin McCurdie for her enthusiasm and support in helping us to be able to make this announcement."

“We look forward to welcoming the European touch community to compete in and enjoy high-level competition in a beautiful environment. The STA hopes that the visibility of our sport being played in these divisions will inspire more people to get involved.”

The first edition of the European Seniors Cup will be hosted by the University of Stirling and after a seven-year hiatus from international touch competition, the higher education establishment is delighted to be involved:

“We’re delighted to be able to host and look forward to working with the STA and FIT to welcome everyone to Stirling and put on a fantastic event,” said Kaitlin McCurdie, Commercial Services Leader, at the University of Stirling.

Touch was first played in Stirling in 2001, with local club Stirling Storm still going strong today. With Storm supporting development locally, the University Touch Club was established in 2013. Current University Touch Club President, Lewis Millar, said:

“I’ve watched Touch grow first-hand in Stirling and am excited to see the European Seniors Cup come to the University. This will be a great opportunity for the sport to further develop here.”

Entry for the event is expected to open in January, but NTO’s are encouraged to complete the Expression of Interest sent to them directly.
