Squirrels Take Out Touch in Paris

The 8th edition of Touch in Paris was held on Saturday the 18th May at Gif sur Yvette. Hosted by the local club, Roosters, the tournament was a great success despite the wet weather.

On the pitch the competition was tough as the level while high was a lot more homogenous this year. 24 teams were present from 9 different countries ( Scotland, England, Wales, Spain, Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland and France. These teams battled all day in a total of 72 games on six fields. A big shout out and thank you to the 24 referees who controlled the games. We are always appreciative of the top level referees, that come to our tournament each year.For the first time two French teams were in the finals and as a consequence a French club took out the honours. The Squirrels from Free Touch, no strangers to winning, beat the SMH Blues from St Martine d'Heres.Following the awards ceremony, officiated by local dignitaries, the festivities began ... and so did the rain, however this didn't dampen spirits and there was as much to eat and to drink as in previous tournaments.

Thanks to all the members and families of TR91 who gave up their time willingly to help out, its a credit to a club when they can boast 40 volunteers to run the tournament so that the players can get on and play.

En français :Le samedi 18 mai s'est tenu le mariage de Greg, heu non, la 8ème édition du Touch In Paris, l'un des plus grands tournois mixtes d'Europe. Comme d'habitude, il avait lieu à Gif sur Yvette, organisé par les Roosters de TR91. Malgré un temps pluvieux très inhabituel, le tournoi a tenu toute ses promesses, avec un niveau de jeu plus élevé et plus homogène que les années précédentes. Les 24 équipes, venues de 9 pays différents (Ecosse, Angleterre, Pays de Galles, Espagne, Pays-Bas, Guernesey, Belgique, Suisse et France), se sont affrontées toute la journée au cours de 72 matchs sur 6 terrains. 24 arbitres étaient présents pour encadrer l'événement.Pour la première fois, 2 équipes françaises se sont retrouvées en finale, et pour la première fois également, c'est donc une équipe française qui remporte le Touch In Paris. Les Squirrels de Free Touch, habitués du podium du TIP, ont battus les SMH Blues de Saint Martin d'Hères. Le touch français va bien !Suite à la remise des trophées, effectuée par les personnalités de la région, la fameuse soirée du tournoi s'est bien déroulée, malgré la pluie en fin de journée ! TR91 remercie les très nombreux bénévoles qui ont encore une fois permis la réalisation de ce formidable tournoi .
