Australia's female Touch players continue to impress on the world stage, with four representative players this week embarking on another World Cup campaign - this time with the Australian Jillaroos Rugby League team.
New South Wales' Samantha Hammond, Emma Tonegato and Tegan Chandler, and Queensland's Ali Brigginshaw, have all been selected in the squad, which will travel to Leeds looking to avenge cross-Tasman rivals New Zealand, with the NZ Ferns winning all three World Cups since its inception in 2000.
Samantha Hammond represented the Australian 18's and 20's Girls teams in the 2009 and 2011 Youth Trans Tasman Series' events respectively while Ali Brigginshaw also tasted success at a Youth representative level when she played in the Australian 20's Girls team at the 2009 Youth Trans Tasman series.
Emma Tonegato and Tegan Chandler have both been successful on the Touch Football field in recent times. Tonegato was part of the New South Wales Women's 20's 3-0 victory over Queensland in the 2012 State of Origin Series and also represented the New South Wales Country Mavericks Women's team at the 2013 Elite Eight Series. While Chandler was a member of the New South Wales Mets team that won the 2013 Elite Eight Series at Coffs Harbour.
The group stages of the Women's Rugby League World Cup start on Friday, 5 July with the final to be played on Sunday, 14 July.
The Federation of International Touch would like to congratulate Samantha, Ali, Emma and Tegan on their selection in the Jillaroos squad and wish them the very best of luck in the World Cup!
