The popularity of Touch in the UAE continues to rise, after a number of Sharjah-based schools received a series of coaching clinics, as they look to implement the sport into their school programs.
The success of the inaugural Abu Dhabi Schools Touch Super Series, which runs until March 25, prompted a number of schools in Sharjah to learn more about Touch.
A number of teachers and students were taken through their paces by UAE Touch Director of Coaching, Tui Waruhia, and UAE Touch President, John Larkins, in a series of drills designed to give the teachers the necessary tools to enable them to introduce Touch into their P.E programs.
Head Of Physical Education at Sharjah English School, Lee Garrett, is the man behind the push to create a schools Touch competition in Sharjah.
"I believe the game of Touch is a great sport for all of our students to experience with its combination of speed, agility, vision, fitness and ball skills," Garrett said. "Students from many different sports including football & basketball would find the game challenging and exciting."
Waruhia is pleased to see the expansion of Touch across the Emirates, stating: "The goal for UAE Touch is to give students across the UAE a chance to represent their school, Emirate and country in a sport that currently has a world cup every four years and tournaments all over the world."
Sharjah English School, in conjunction with UAE Touch, will be holding a Sharjah Secondary Schools tournament in early March in order to select a Sharjah side to compete against sides from Al Ain, Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
