The STA has announced that the 2012 Scottish National Championships will be held at Falkirk Rugby Club on 4 August. Regional squads from across Scotland will battle each other for the national title.
Edinburgh Flames hold the mens title but will face a tough challenge from Glasgow who have featured well in recent years. In the womens division, Aberdeen made history last year by breaking the capital's strangehold over the championship while demonstrating their depth of talent by fielding two sides.STA President, Peter Faassen de Heer, commented on the decision to hold the Nationals in Falkirk: "The STA wanted to bring its flagship event to an area without much Touch to generate new interest in the sport. I also saw how well the pitches held up under extremely wet conditions last weekend, the friendliness and professionalism of ground staff and the facilities available. Using this facility also allows us to expand the event thanks to an arrangement we have agreed with Scottish Rugby League and In2Touch who are managing the event for us. All together, it looks like this will be the biggest and best Nationals yet."Iain Gray from In2Touch added: "In2Touch are delighted to be organising the most important event in the Scottish Touch calendar in partnership with the STA and with the assistance of Scottish Rugby League and we have planned a very special event indeed. Not only will be be hosting the largest National Championships event to date but we will also be aiming to run a social mixed touch event. This will allow more players to get involved in the Nationals allowing us to showcase the top regional players and to provide social players the opportunity to rub shoulders with the top players in the country.
