Mr Dennis Coffey, the Secretary General of the International Federation, is visiting Singapore for two days to discuss a wide range of topics.
Mr Coffey will be discussing local and regional development with Bryan O'Connor (FIT Asia Chairman of Development) and naturally Singapore's involvement and progress for the World Cup 2011.
One important discussion will also be centred on the Singapore bid for the 2015 WC — and inspection of potential facilities and associated logistics.
Originally his visit was planned to coincide with a technical development tour in Pakistan and India some weeks ago — plans have been changed due to flights and pressing matters back in Australia — and so we are fortunate to have his time now on the way back from Southern Asia.
It is unfortunate that Dennis cannot be present for the historical test match between Singapore and Scotland Men — however, FIT board meetings and associated FIT business on Monday will not allow this.
Dennis has a detailed report from his tour and meetings in Pakistan and India — meeting with the national Touch administrations along with senior government officials and very supportive political and business figures alike.
The potential for Touch as a dynamic 'run, catch and pass' non-threatening sport in Pakistan, India and the surrounding region including countries like Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, The Maldives, Bangladesh and others is overwhelming. The support and enthusiasm for Touch was in a word 'incredible' and the development of today will pave the way for ongoing support, tours and reciprocal participation in Asian and international competition in the future.
When Dennis was in the region — the Afghanistan Touch Association was officially formed .... history in the making!
