In 1996 the first European Championships were conducted at the Halifax Rugby League Fields in the north of England. In the early years of it's development, club teams as well as touring teams from other counties were encouraged to participate but not allowed to compete for the Championship Trophy in the finals.
This proved very successful until the event could stand on it own with only European teams competing. Such was the success that the event has just grown to be the largest regional Touch event in the world.
